Manchester United are ready to take on rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez, according to reports.
Erik ten Hag’s have enjoyed a mini resurgence in recent weeks and are now unbeaten in eight games.
Nevertheless, the Red Devils’ squad is thin in several areas, and if Donnie van de Beek were to depart in the next two windows as anticipated ten Hag would likely look to bring in another midfielder.

Fernandez is reportedly now being watched closely by Man Utd alongside a host of other Premier League clubs, according to 90min.
Hailed as a “genius” by coach Jose Peseiro, the 21-year-old has been a revelation in Portugal this season, having signed from River Plate in the summer.
Benfica remain unbeaten in all competitions and have already booked their place in their Champions League knockout stages at the expense of Serie A giants Juventus.

Liverpool too, are said to be interested with Fichajes having reported that the Reds will contact the Eagles to enquire about the price of Fernandez.
The Spanish outlet, which described the midfielder as “very complete”, claims that Benfica have insisted they have no desire to let go of the 21-year-old.
Indeed, while Sport has quoted a price tag of £44million for the player, other reports claim he has a release clause of £103million.
Fernandez’s admirers extend beyond the two Premier League clubs, however.

His Argentina teammate and captain, Lionel Messi has been full of praise for Fernandez following his performance in Argentina’s 3-0 friendly victory over Honduras last month.
Referring to Fernandez and fellow Albiceleste debutant Thiago Almada, the seven-time Balon d’Or winner said: “They are two kids that we already knew; both with a big future.
“Enzo is very intelligent. They are both very good. (Enzo) is a player with a lot of personality, a good pass. I think they are two spectacular players.”
