Liverpool could soon hand Erik Ten Hag some more bad news in the transfer market.
The Manchester United manager’s job is under severe pressure at Old Trafford and he has faced criticism for many of his signings.
Ten Hag sanctioned an £85m move for Antony, who has scored just 12 goals for United so far. Mason Mount, who arrived in the summer of 2023, has struggled for form and fitness.

United have also been left without a first choice left back for much of the past two seasons, given Tyrell Malacia’s long term absence and Luke Shaw’s ongoing injury issues.
That didn’t stop United selling left back Alvaro Carreras to Benfica in the summer for £5million.
And just five months after his permanent exit, Liverpool are said to be interested in bringing the 21-year-old back to the Premier League.

Carreras had been highly rated in United’s Academy, and won the u23 Player of the Year award in 2022.
He did not make a senior appearance at Old Trafford, but had been named on the bench in the Premier League.
And according to AS, Liverpool have shown the most interest in Carreras as they look for a long term replacement for Andy Robertson.

United are believed to have a buyback clause in place for Carreras, so could potentially block any move to Anfield for their former defender.
However, letting him go too early could prove another embarrassing mistake in the transfer market for United and Ten Hag.
Under the Dutchman, United have spent more than £700 million on new players, but are still way off the pace and sit 14th in the Premier League table after seven matches.

And while Carreras is shining for Benfica, Ten Hag may have another defensive injury crisis on his hands.
As well as Shaw and Malacia, Harry Maguire and summer signing Noussair Mazraoui are now on the sidelines, meaning Victor Lindelof could be drafted into to a full back role when club football resumes next weekend.
United face Brentford at home on Saturday in a game that Ten Hag will be desperate to win to alleviate some of the pressure on his position.
