Liverpool are tracking Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez, a player Manchester United are thought to be “crazy” about, according to reports.
The Reds have endured a difficult start to the league season, and are currently languishing in eighth, seven points from the Champions League spots and some 15 points off table toppers Arsenal.
Their ageing squad is in desperate need of January recruits, particularly in light of Fabinho’s stuttering form this term.
Liverpool tracking Fernandez
Jurgen Klopp’s side are allegedly monitoring Argentina international Fernandez.

The Record claim that both Liverpool and Manchester City have watched the 21-year-old in the Champions League this term, and the fact he is likely to receive World Cup minutes only “whets” their “appetite” further.
Benfica signed Fernandez in the summer from River Plate for just €12 million (£10.45 million) from River Plate and his performances since have alerted some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The Argentinian midfielder is now valued by Transfermarkt at €35 million (£30 million), having spent just a few months in Lisbon, while he is also protected by a €120 million (£104 million) release clause.
Man Utd also interested
The Record also claims that Man Utd are “delighted” with Fernandez and are leading the list of clubs likely to sign him.

The Red Devils are said to be “crazy” about signing the midfielder in January, and they’re the “main club” interested in Fernandez.
Another club thought to be interested is Barcelona, though the La Liga giants are in a precarious financial position.
