Punter denied 167/1 eight-leg bet builder during Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham after VAR decision

Punter denied 167/1 eight-leg bet builder during Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham after VAR decision

The punter narrowly missed out.

A punter was left devastated after a 167/1 bet on Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham didn't come in - despite a VAR intervention.

Spurs picked up a crucial 2-0 win - their second in a week - to down Steve Cooper's side, with Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski scoring either side of half time.

It wasn't the ideal evening for Ange Postecoglou's side, though, with Brendan Johnson having to be substituted due to a head injury in the first half.

Then, at 2-0 up, Yves Bissouma received a red card for a high challenge on Ryan Yates.

While it wasn't the perfect night for Spurs, it was also less than ideal for one punter, who placed £10 on a 167/1 eight-leg bet builder before the match.

Seven of his eight selections came in, including Tottenham to win, Richarlison and Brennan Johnson to have one shot on target, and for more than 1.5 cards to be awarded to Forest.

The only section that didn't come in, however, was for Bissouma to commit one or more fouls.

You would be forgiven for thinking, given the Mali international was sent off for a foul, how the challenge wasn't counted on the bet.

Another punter was hit by the same fate, having bet on Bissouma to commit more than 0.5 fouls.

However, as the referee initially played advantage for the foul and then pulled play in order to give the Spurs midfielder a yellow card, it is not counted as a foul under Opta rules.

The fact that VAR checked the incident and upgraded Bissouma's challenge to a red card-worthy offence did not change that rule, with punters left furious that the 'foul' lost them their bet builders for the evening.

But because VAR sent the midfielder off, it meant he was unable to commit another foul for the bet to come through.

On the pitch, Bissouma will miss the next four games, having already been sent off once this season. He is set to play at the Africa Cup of Nations, and will not feature again for Spurs until the end of January.
