Tottenham release eight players in brutal summer overhaul including four first-team stars

Tottenham Hotspur have announced their retained list.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced their retained list after the 23/24 season came to a close.

Ange Postecoglou’s men had a disappointing end to the season as they failed to chase Aston Villa down in their bid to secure Champions League football.

As a result, the North London club will play in the Europa League next season.

Ahead of the new campaign, Spurs have confirmed the list of players who will be leaving.

The likes of Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic and Japhet Tanganga will all depart following the expiration of their contracts.

A statement from the club said: “We can confirm the departures of Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga following the conclusion of their contracts. We said farewell to both Eric and Ivan in January as they headed off to join their new clubs, initially on loan.

“Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, we now bid farewell to Ryan and Japhet. We thank Eric, Ivan, Ryan and Japhet for their service to the Club and wish them all the very best for the future.”

Dier left Spurs during the January transfer window to sign for German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on loan, reuniting with former teammate Harry Kane.

Since moving to Bavaria, Dier made a total of 20 appearances, 15 in the Bundesliga and five in the Champions League as Thomas Tuchel’s men were beaten in the semi-final by eventual winners Real Madrid.

Away from the first team, Spurs have also confirmed that Charlie Sayers and Billy Heaps from their Development Squad will depart.

In addition, Under-18s players Kieran Morgan and Han Willhoft-King have also left the club after their scholarships came to an end.

Spurs said: “We thank Charlie, Billy, Kieran, Han and their families for their hard work and dedication to our Academy and wish them well for the future.”
