Ruben Amorim breaks silence on Alejandro Garnacho's decision to walk straight down the tunnel during Man Utd vs Ipswich

Garnacho was brought off two minutes before half-time.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says he will take action after Alejandro Garnacho walked straight down the tunnel during Wednesday's Premier League clash against Ipswich Town.

With two minutes remaining of the first-half, January signing Patrick Dorgu was dismissed following a studs-up challenge on Omari Hutchinson.

It was a moment that forced Amorim to reshuffle the pack, with Garnacho making way for Noussair Mazraoui as United attempted to defend their already-fragile 2-1 lead against Kieran McKenna's side.

Garnacho, however, was visibly frustrated by the decision and seconds later, he walked straight down the Old Trafford tunnel.

In fact, after the full-time whistle, the Argentine took to social media to seemingly express his disappointment at being replaced, posting an image of himself looking disconsolate on his Instagram story.

Speaking in his post-match media duties, Amorim touched on Garnacho's decision to head straight down the tunnel.

“It was cold and wet, maybe,” he said. “The thinking was we’d play more in the 5-3-1. I know that is a risk because you are taking maybe the only player who has one against one pace but I felt the team was OK in the controlling of the game, almost at half-time.

“Then you make the substitution. We have to choose someone to go out, we have to think about set pieces also, so it was my choice.”

The Portuguese coach was later asked to clarify whether he was unhappy with Garnacho and, to the surprise of some, he brought up Marcus Rashford, who recently joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

“You are making a connection with Rashford, right? I know, I know,” he added.

“What I’m saying is I’m going to talk obviously with Garnacho about that, so I will talk about that if you want in the next press conference.”

As well as touching on his decision to replace Garnacho, Amorim jumped to the defence of Patrick Dorgu, who was partly at fault for Ipswich's opener following a miscommunication with goalkeeper Andre Onana.

“Everybody when they watch that ball were thinking ‘here we go again’,” Amorim said, “But then sometimes football is like that and we managed to fight all the situations during the game and think we truly deserve the three points today.

“The first situation was a misunderstanding, the way they connect each other.

“Then the sending off, the important thing is that I really know Dorgu quite well. He doesn’t want to harm anybody and that is important for me.

“Then you have this situation. He had that mistake and then you feel in the game that he was making a lot of runs, trying to win every ball, being aggressive and sometimes you overdo it and he has these problems today.”
