Ruben Amorim has already put BAN in place during first few weeks at Man United

Ruben Amorim has already put BAN in place during first few weeks at Man United

The new United head coach is already making his mark.

Ruben Amorim has already imposed a ‘ban’ on one particular thing at Man United.

Amorim, 39, will take charge of his first coach as United head coach on Sunday afternoon when his side take on Premier League strugglers Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Ahead of the fixture, Amorim has taken charge of training this week despite his squad being depleted due to international commitments.

The former Sporting boss was left with just ten first-team players at his disposal, meaning several academy prospects were called up to first-team training – Amorim even joined in himself.

Fans have tried to predict his first starting XI based on training footage released by the club this week, with several players reportedly impressing their new boss already.

The 39-year-old is known for his meticulous approach to training methods but also believes instructions should be delivered simply to players for them to understand exactly what is being asked of them.

Even his staff have been “banned” from giving out complicated instructions, according to the Mirror.

Amorim and his coaches are thought to have been trying to implement their own style and formation in training this week – the former Braga boss has tended to favour either a 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 formation during his managerial career.

But in his first interview with the club, he insisted he would need “time” to fully allow his players to get used to his demands.

The former Benfica midfielder has cut a confident figure during the lead-up to this weekend’s clash with Ipswich.

When asked if he felt the United job was “the impossible job”, he replied, “Of course not”.

Although his record in his native Portugal is impressive – securing two Primeira Liga titles at Sporting – managing United is an entirely different task, as former boss Erik ten Hag found out, despite coming into the role with great promise after a successful stint at Ajax.

In yesterday’s press conference, Amorim gave his theory on ‘risks’ when discussing his playing style.

"As a coach, you have to choose one way or another,” he explained to the assembled journalists at Carrington Training Centre.

“I always, 100%, our way. I prefer to risk but push in the first moment.

"Since the first moment, I believe so much in our way of playing - there’s no second way.

“We will adapt some players because we don’t have the right profiles, as this squad was set up for a different system.

"When you see the team on Sunday, it will be similar players, but in the game, it will be different."
