Alan Shearer has joked Gary Lineker is a 'f**king idiot" after hearing he turned Manchester United down twice in his career.
Shearer knows all about being the top target at Old Trafford. During his playing career, he turned them down twice himself to move to Blackburn Rovers from Southampton, then boyhood club Newcastle United from Rovers.
He managed to become the Premier League's all-time top goalscorer with 260 goals and helped Rovers win their only title.

However, it pales in comparison to what he'd have achieved with United.
Shearer maintains he has no regrets when it comes to his career despite failing to win a trophy with Newcastle.
He's not the only England legend to reject multiple opportunities to play at the Theatre of Dreams. Step forward, Gary Lineker.

On the latest episode of 'The Rest Is Football', Shearer and Lineker picked the clubs they wish they'd played for alongside Micah Richards.
Lineker admitted he had two chances to join United in the 1980s. He said: “I had two opportunities to join them, once when Ron Atkinson was manager but I went to Everton instead.
"You’ve got to remember, Man United weren’t that dominant in those days.

"The second time was when I went to Spurs when Sir Alex was in charge, but it was still a good three or four years before he started to have any success.
"They also gave me a lovely send-off in my last-ever game in English football, so I’d perhaps say Manchester United."
With tongue firmly planted in cheek, Shearer replied: "You turned Sir Alex down? You f**king idiot! What idiot does that?"

Lineker then joked: "I can’t think of anyone, Alan. You thought you were the first."
Shearer said he'd have loved to play for Sunderland - so he could get them relegated from the Premier League again. Once a Geordie, always a Geordie.
Richards said he'd have liked to be one of Arsenal's famous Invincibles, who went an entire league campaign unbeaten.
