Fans are convinced Chelsea should have had a penalty as new angle of Trent Alexander-Arnold challenge emerges

Fans are convinced Chelsea should have had a penalty as new angle of Trent Alexander-Arnold challenge emerges

Fans felt Trent Alexander-Arnold got away with one against Chelsea.

Fans are adamant that Chelsea should have been given a penalty against Liverpool.

On Sunday afternoon, Enzo Maresca’s men travelled to Anfield hoping to get themselves into the top three in the Premier League table.

Chelsea found themselves behind just before the half-hour mark after Curtis Jones was fouled by Levi Colwill inside the area, which resulted in Mohamed Salah smashing home a penalty to make it 1-0.

However, fans believed that Chelsea should have been given a penalty when Trent Alexander-Arnold made a challenge on Jadon Sancho inside the Liverpool box.

There was a VAR check but the referee’s decision to not give a penalty was upheld.

Reacting on social media, one fan posted an alternate angle of the tussle and said: "VAR didin’t even bother to check Trent’s foul on Sancho inside the penalty area."

Another tweeted: “That's a penalty but no way given against LiVARpool.”

A third fan added: “They know what they’re doing, if that tackle from Colwill was a PEN then this should’ve been a PEN too. More obvious, a lot more violent.”

Someone else wrote: “A very clear penalty, Arnold stepped on Sancho's right leg.”

A fifth commented: “Var checks everything and they just made the wrong decision that it wasn’t a pen.”

In the second half, Chelsea drew level thanks to a well-taken goal by Nicolas Jackson in the 48th minute.

However, they were not level for long as Jones was expertly picked out by Salah in the 51st minute to make it 2-1.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Everton midfielder Leon Osman said: “Chelsea are trying to play Nunez offside, they are trying to do it so much that they don't care about tracking the late runners. Salah didn't have to do an awful lot to find Jones' run there.”

Meanwhile, former England and Manchester United defender Gary Neville said on Sky Sports: “Jones has been involved in everything - he has been Liverpool's best player by a mile!”
