Unseen footage of viral breakdancer Raygun leaves fans asking why 'didn't she do this in the Olympics'

Breaking made its debut at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

New footage of viral Australian breakdancer Raygun has got fans talking.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games saw the sport of breaking make its debut.

On Friday, the women’s event took place with Japan’s Ami Yuasa taking gold, Lithuania’s Dominika Banevic winning the silver and Liu Qingyi taking the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, the men’s event was won by Philip Kim of Canada, with France’s Danis Civil winning the silver and Victor Montalvo of Team USA getting the bronze.

During the women’s competition, Australia’s Rachael Gunn’s routine against France’s Sya Dembele went viral.

After that, new footage of her dancing inside the athletes’ village emerged.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “Why didn't she do this in the routine?”

Another commented: “Have we been had by Raygun!! She never moved like that in any of her heats…”

A third fan added: “And why didn't she do this during the competition.”

Someone else wrote: “Why didn’t she do that in competition? That was decent.”

A fifth asked: “And where was this in the competition.”

Ahead of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, it was revealed that breaking will not be part of the schedule.

Reacting to the news, Raygun said: “It was disappointing it was decided that it wouldn’t be in LA, particularly before we even had a chance to show it.

“That was possibly a little premature. I wonder if they’re kicking themselves now? What is an Olympic sport? What are the similarities between dressage and artistic swimming and the 100m sprint and the pentathlon?”

She added: “Breaking is clearly athletic, it clearly requires a whole level of dedication across a number of different aspects. It’s really bringing a new level of excitement.

“Don’t be afraid to be different. Go out there and represent yourself, you never know where that’s gonna take you.”
