A clip of the proposal, which has gone viral on social media, shows a Blue Jays fan hugging his partner on the steps of one of the stands at the Rogers Centre – the home of the Canadian side.
After sharing a kiss and a few words, the man gets down on one knee – with a cameraman behind the pair ready to capture the romantic moment on film.
But instead of pulling out a diamond ring, the fan presents his girlfriend with a piece of confectionery.

Unfortunately for the Blue Jays fan, his partner failed to see the funny side of his prank.
After realising he's humiliated her in front of thousands of people, she slaps him across the face and then throws a drink over him while muttering expletives.
Footage of the incident has spread quickly across social media.
While some users believe the fan deserved to be slapped, others claim his girlfriend overreacted to a harmless joke.

While a third wrote: "Nooo, that's a special moment why play around like that…"
Meanwhile, other users believe the whole incident was staged for the cameras.
"Ok definitely staged. They do this stuff at games all the time," posted another TikTok user.
Staged or not, the fan certainly won't be forgetting that slap in a hurry.
