PGA Tour chief's staggering salary leaked online and only one golfer took home more money than him in 2024

PGA Tour chief's staggering salary leaked online and only one golfer took home more money than him in 2024

The PGA boss earns a breathtaking amount every year.

The massive salary of PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has leaked online, and only one golfer earned more than him in 2024.

For decades, the top players in golf have enjoyed some of the biggest annual incomes of any athlete across the globe.

In the annual Players Championship alone, the prize pool is a whopping $25million (£19.96m), with just under $5m awarded to the winner.

But, after the salary of PGA boss Monahan leaked online, it was been revealed that there was only one golfer in the world that earned more in 2024.

According to Media outlet Sportico, Monahan took home over $23m (£18.4m) in regular and deferred compensation in 2023, according to a copy of the American golf league's 2023 tax return.

His total salary included $12.1m (£9.65m) in bonus and incentive based compensation, $2.5m (£1.99m) in estimated post-retirement benefits and $6.7m (£5.34m) in post-2023 long-term incentive compensation.

However, a little more than $9m of his earnings are deferred for future years and could therefore change in value based on long-term interest rates.

Before his bonuses, Monahan was handed a massive base salary of $1,887,096 (£1.5m).

This means that there was only one PGA tour golfer with a better take-home pay in 2024, world number one Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler enjoyed perhaps the best year of his already impressive career in 2024, winning one major (The Masters) and seven PGA Tour events.

Officially, the American earned a record $29,228,357 (£23.3m) on the Tour, but this already massive total does not include the $25,000,000 (£19.95m) bonus he earned after winning theFedExCup, the $8m (£6.4m) bonus for finishing on top of the Comcast Business top 10, or the $1 million he was awarded at the Hero.

This means that his total earnings in 2024 is estimated to have been around $63,228,357 (£50.4m)
