Denzel Dumfries produced a wing-back masterclass as he helped his side secure a place in the World Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 win over the United States.
The Netherlands were heavy favourites going into the last-16 clash against the USMNT. However, it was Gregg Berhalter’s side who made the more promising start, with Christian Pulisic wasting a golden opportunity to put his side ahead after just three minutes.
That chance for the US was the warning Louis van Gaal’s side needed as they went on to open the scoring in the 10th minute through Memphis Depay after a clever pull-back by Dumfries.

The Inter Milan defender was involved once again as he provided Daley Blind with a perfect cross to make it 2-0 just before half-time.
In the second half, Dumfries scored in the 81st minute to seal a 3-1 victory and capped off a truly wonderful performance.
Best Moment:

Dumfries was pretty much unplayable on the Dutch right-hand side, too fast, too strong and simply too good. His best moment was when he swept home a left-footed volley to make it 3-1. A well-taken goal to round off a perfect day at the office.
Player Rating: 9/10
It could have easily been a 10/10 performance from Dumfries after registering a goal and two assists. He was by far the best player on the pitch and was deservedly named the official player of the match.

Whilst manager Van Gaal said Dumfries earned himself ‘a big fat kiss’, he said: “Yesterday I gave him a big fat kiss, and I am going to give him another one...There you go.”

Overall Verdict:

It was a truly breathtaking performance from the full-back. Dumfries was dominant at both ends of the pitch, and there is no wonder why he has been linked with a move to the Premier League. His value is only going in one direction if he continues this fine form, what a player.
