Man City tipped to make stunning move for Liverpool star who has already decided to leave the club

Pep Guardiola has been urged to bring a Liverpool star to the Etihad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Manchester City could begin rebuilding their side by signing a shock Liverpool player ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Having won the last four Premier League titles, Manchester City are now battling to stay in contention for a place in next season’s Champions League.

With legend Kevin De Bruyne already leaving the club, it is felt that City manager Pep Guardiola will be looking to rebuild his side come this summer.

One position he may need to bolster is goalkeeper.

Ederson and Stefan Ortega have both vied for the number one jersey this season, but both have been prone to errors.

Meanwhile, Liverpool look set to win the Premier League at a canter. Unlike City, they are well positioned when it comes to goalkeepers.

Brazilian Alisson is well backed up by Irish international Caoimhin Kelleher, who made 26 appearances for Liverpool while Alisson was injured during the 2023/24 campaign.

Now aged 26, Kelleher is eager for regular first team football, with City a potential destination.

Former Liverpool, City and England goalkeeper David James has urged Guardiola to bring Kelleher to the Etihad, he said: “Caoimhín’s got that calmness about him.

"He's unflappable. He's won trophies, which is a major thing. He knows how to get into those positions to win trophies. He's been involved in penalty shootouts, all the stuff that you want from a top goalkeeper.

“If Liverpool needed to move one goalkeeper on, and Man City might need one.

"You know, you probably wouldn't even have to relocate because it's only 45 minutes down the road. You don’t often see moves like that between two title rivals, but I think this one could benefit all parties."

Kelleher scored Liverpool’s decisive penalty kick as they defeated Chelsea 11-10 on penalties in the 2022 League Cup final. He has gone on record about his ambitions to play regular first team football, which seem unlikely at Anfield, with Georgian keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili set to join the club this summer.

“I've made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a No. 1 and play week in, week out,” said Kelleher. “The club's made that decision to get another goalkeeper, and from the outside looking in, it looks like they've made a decision to go in a different direction."
