Rare update given on forgotten Liverpool player who hasn't played single match in six-and-a-half years at club

Rare update given on forgotten Liverpool player who hasn't played single match in six-and-a-half years at club

Colombian Anderson Arroyo has been at Liverpool since 2018

It is a summer of change at Liverpool following Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout - and that also means the squad is not staying the same too.

Slot has moved to Anfield from Dutch side Feyenoord, after Klopp's tenure at Liverpool came to a conclusion following a successful decade in charge.

Slot has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Liverpool, and the Anfield side will return for pre-season training in July.

The 45-year-old Dutchman will take over a squad which will differ from Klopp's final collection of players, following several departures this summer.

Central defender Joel Matip will leave at the expiry of his contract, bringing an end to an eight-year spell with the Anfield side in which he scored 11 goals in 201 games.

Midfielder Thiago Alcantara is also departing, having joined from Bayern Munich in 2020 and scoring three goals in 98 games.

Mateusz Musialowski and Melkamu Frauendorf have also departed at the end of their contracts, while defender Calvin Ramsay has joined Wigan Athletic on loan.

Goalkeeper Adrian has been offered a new contract at Anfield, but according to reports in Spain could be set to join La Liga side Real Betis.

But another player who could be about to depart Liverpool is someone who joined the club under Klopp in 2018, but has never played a first-team game for the Anfield side.

And that is Anderson Arroyo, a Colombian defender aged 24 who can play either as a right-back or in the heart of the defence.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Arroyo is poised to join Spanish side Burgos, bringing to an end a six-and-a-half year stay at the club and having kicked a ball in anger for them.

Since joining Liverpool, Arroyo has been sent out on loan countless times to clubs in Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Andorra.

The defender joined Burgos on loan in January of this year, scoring once in 16 games for the Spanish second division outfit.

And it seems that stay is set to be turned into a permanent one this summer, with Liverpool not expected to receive a fee for the defender.
