Leeds United star Raphinha has opted against joining Liverpool this summer, instead favouring a move to Barcelona.
The £50-million rated winger has been linked with a move to Merseyside in recent weeks to replace the potentially departing Sadio Mané. However, according to Sport 1, the Brazil international would like to move abroad and join Xavi’s project at Barcelona instead.
Nevertheless, all hope is not lost for Liverpool in this pursuit. The FA Cup champions possess much more financial power than Barcelona who remain in economic disarray. A deal which would see Raphinha make the switch to Barcelona might not even be financially feasible for the Catalonian club.

It is also not clear whether Raphinha is one of Liverpool’s primary forward targets this summer. The Reds have been linked with a plethora of attacking names, including Christian Pulisic, Darwin Nuñez, and Serge Gnabry. Raphinha may lie below these players on Klopp’s summer wish list.
How well suited to Liverpool’s current attack Raphinha would be is also up for debate. The Brazilian prefers to operate on the right-hand side of the pitch, cutting in onto his left foot. Of course, Liverpool already have a player who is pretty good at doing that in Mo Salah, so it’s unlikely those two could line up alongside each other.
As tentative links to Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski have suggested, Liverpool might also be looking for a man who can play through the middle rather than another winger. With Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota already on Liverpool’s books, it’d make sense for Liverpool to acquire a different type of forward to replace Mané.
It’ll be interesting to see how Leeds handle Raphinha’s departure next season. He is one of two key Leeds players set to leave the club this summer, with Kalvin Phillips also seeking a move away. The England international has also been linked with a move to Liverpool himself.
