Manchester United might be desperate to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, but their transfer bid won't be around forever.
Every summer United seem to be involved in a transfer saga that takes far too long, whilst their rivals swoop in and get their main moves done relatively quickly, such as Manchester City signing Erling Haaland.

Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho are potentially the best two examples, with Bruno Fernandes also taking his time in a January transfer window, and this year it's all about De Jong.
Whilst they've gone out to sign Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen, who signed on Friday, the attempts to sign Barcelona's midfielder are taking decidedly longer.
Barca's refusal to pay the player's owed money, as well as his desire to stay at the Nou Camp, are not making things go quickly at all.

Now it seems that everyone needs to come to an agreement soon enough, because United aren't ready to wait around until the end of time.
According to SPORT, via Sport Witness, there is an 'expiration date' to the offer that's on the table and the club are putting pressure on the player to move, to avoid it running out.
De Jong is desperate to stay at the Nou Camp, despite his club seemingly being open to let the player go, with Chelsea also reportedly interested.

Some reports have claimed that the Spanish giants need to sell the former Ajax man due to their financial problems and the incoming transfers.
Xavi's side have added Franck Kessie, Andreas Christiansen and Raphinha already this summer, with Robert Lewandowski expected to join.
Jules Kounde and Bernardo Silva have also been linked with the club, and all that comes despite Kessi and Christiansen not being able to register for the club in the league.

On top of the new players, the club have also re-signed Ousmane Dembele, after his contract expired, with the club being criticised for his transfer announcement.
Barca revealed their squad for the pre season tour to America, on Saturday, and De Jong was amongst those who will be travelling across the Atlantic ocean.
Goalkeeper Neto, striker Martin Braithwaite, midfielder Riqui Puig and defenders Samuel Umtiti and Oscar Mingueza will all be missing the tour as the club look to sell them ahead of the start of the season.
United continued their tour to Asia and Australia with a win over Melbourne Victory on Friday, as Eric Bailly continued his form as a playmaker, of all things.

The club are hoping to announce the signing of Lisandro Martinez in the coming days, having reportedly agreed a fee with Ajax for the centre back.
