Southampton are preparing a bid of around £20m for Liverpool star Neco Williams, as they look to beat rival Premier League clubs to his signature.
The Welshman has been attracting interest from many clubs and looked set to move to newly promoted Nottingham Forest, but a failure to agree a fee with Liverpool caused the move to swiftly break down.
According to Football Insider, sources at Southampton say that the club is keen to win the race for the Welsh right back, and that a formal offer is being readied.

Fulham, who had him on loan last season, are also in the race for his signature after he had an impressive spell at the club, helping the West London side canter to promotion.
Nottingham Forest are the only side to have placed an official bid so far, but their £12m valuation of Williams was instantly rejected, and it is understood the clubs are struggling to come to an agreement.

Williams undoubtedly has bags of talent, and has already played over 20 times for his country at the young age of 21.
However, his desire to play regular first-team football in order to secure his place in the Wales team for the 2022 World Cup, may mean he has to move.
Game time may be hard to come by at Anfield for the 21 year-old, as he is already behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order, who has cemented his place as one of the very best in the world in that position over the last few seasons.
Furthermore, the recent addition of Calvin Ramsay to the club is likely to further diminish Williams’ minutes in the side.

There is undoubtedly a growing sense that the Welshman will not be at Anfield next season.
His destination remains unknown, but provided Southampton’s bid satisfies the Merseyside Club, Williams could be playing for the south-coast club next season.
