Jose Mourinho name-checks two players he won't be signing as he outlines Fenerbahce transfer strategy

Jose Mourinho name-checks two players he won't be signing as he outlines Fenerbahce transfer strategy

Jose Mourinho has ruled out a move for a number of his former players.

Jose Mourinho has ruled out signing two of his former players while setting out his transfer strategy at new club Fenerbahce.

Mourinho, 61, has made an unexpected return to football by signing a two-year deal with the Turkish giants.

It is his first role since he was sacked by Italian club Roma in January.

Mourinho was officially confirmed as Fenerbahce's new head coach on Sunday in front of thousands of supporters in Istanbul.

"I promise you that from this moment I belong to your family," Mourinho told a huge crowd at Sukru Saracoglu stadium.

He then triggered cheers by picking up the Fenerbahce jersey before saying: "This shirt is my skin."

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Mourinho was asked about his plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.

"There has been talk of my previous players, at previous clubs, I want to make it 100 per cent my word – I have zero interest in any player from AS Roma," said Mourinho.

"Zero interest."

He also specifically ruled out moves for forwards Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala.

"There was speculation over Lukaku and Dybala. I don't want Lukaku and Dybala," added Mourinho.

Mourinho's refusal to sign any of his former Roma players follows reports he left the squad a bitter note following his departure from the club last season.

Italian outlet Il Messaggero claimed Mourinho returned a ring that was gifted to him by his players following their Europa Conference League success in 2022.

Mourinho is reported to have left it in the locker of captain Lorenzo Pellegrini along with a note, which read: "When you are men, give it back to me."

Mourinho was sacked as Roma manager with his side ninth in the table, with club legend Daniele de Rossi replacing him at the helm. He later guided the club to a sixth-place finish in Serie A.

Mourinho arrives at Fenerbahce just one week after the club was narrowly beaten again for the Turkish league title by rivals Galatasaray, who have now won it five times in the last 10 years.

Fenerbahce missed out in the title race despite reaching a points tally of 99 after losing only one league game all season.
