Spanish police issue update after Wayne Lineker 'knocked out cold' by punch in shocking Ibiza incident

Lineker was punched by a man during an incident in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Spanish police have issued an update following an incident which saw Wayne Lineker knocked unconscious on a night out in Ibiza.

The brother of England football legend Gary Lineker was knocked out by a single punch following an altercation with a group of men outside in Eden Bar in San Antonio, Ibiza in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Video which has been widely circulated on social media shows Lineker stepping out of a car before being confronted by a man.

The 62-year-old holds his arm up to protect himself but is then floored by a punch, hitting his head on the floor after collapsing.

The Sun report that Lineker was 'out cold for at least six minutes' and 'had blood pouring from his mouth' after the shocking incident.

Lineker is reported to have eventually left in a taxi around an hour after the punch was thrown.

The nightclub owner took to social media on Thursday to issue an update on his condition after the incident.

"I wanted to write this post to let everyone know that I'm doing ok… I have a few stitches and a swollen lip," he posted on Instagram.

"It could have been much worse so I count myself very fortunate I wasn't standing 2 yards further back, as my head would have impacted the wall.

"Obviously the video is very disturbing to see especially for my family. The papers were very accurate and it was a simple case of me just trying to protect a girl from being harassed.

"Thank you everyone for all your messages of concern the support has been really overwhelming."

Spanish Police have now issued an update on the situation, revealing that Lineker has yet to press charges.

Local police sources, whose officers are employed by San Antonio Town Hall, told The Sun: "We went to the scene but the [alleged] assault victim was no longer there.

"No-one has yet filed a formal complaint."

Meanwhile, The Civil Guard added that they hadn't received a record of the incident.

An eyewitness told The Sun that Lineker and the man had started arguing after he and his friends 'began pestering' a female acquaintance of Lineker.

It is claimed the group fled the scene after the incident.

"It was horrible - he looked like he could have been dead at one point," said the witness.

"Wayne just fell on the floor and the man and his friends ran off. He was completely unconscious.

"He wasn't really speaking much when he did eventually come back round.

"I stayed to help him and the police turned up but they weren't there for long and didn't really do much and left quickly."
