Gary Lineker's brother Wayne releases statement after being 'knocked out cold' in shocking attack

Wayne Lineker has explained what happened after a video emerged of him being knocked unconscious.

Gary Lineker's brother Wayne has released a statement after a video showed him being knocked unconsciousness.

After stepping out of a car, Lineker was approached by a group of men outside Eden Bar, San Antonio in Ibiza.

The 62-year-old was floored by a single punch and reportedly out cold for six minutes following the shocking attack, which happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

On Thursday, the Ocean Beach club owner took to Instagram to comment on the video, give an update on his condition and explain what happened.

After blood poured from his mouth following the strike, Lineker has been left with a swollen lip and required stitches.

He believes it could have been much worse had he been slightly further back where a wall was stationed.

Moreover, he confirmed media reports that the altercation stemmed from a man and his friends "pestering" a female acquaintance of Lineker's in her 20s.

Lineker wrote: "I wanted to write this post to let everyone know that I’m doing ok…

"I have a few stitches and a swollen lip. It could have been much worse so I count myself very fortunate I wasn’t standing 2 yards further back, as my head would have impacted the wall.

"Obviously the video is very disturbing to see especially for my family. The papers were very accurate and it was a simple case of me just trying to protect a girl from being harassed.

"Thank you everyone for all your messages of concern the support has been really overwhelming."

Lineker, who owns a number of bars and restaurants, hit headlines last week when he jokingly offered Jack Grealish a "four-week loan deal" to work at his Ocean Beach spot.

Grealish, who has been hosted at the club in the past, was left out of England's Euro 2024 squad.

Commenting on a meme page's post, Lineker said: "Great news".
