Wayne Rooney once gifted one of his Man United teammates a Lamborghini after he turned up to training in an Audi

Wayne Rooney gave one of his Man United colleagues an upgraded car according to the player himself.

Wayne Rooney was responsible for a generous gesture to one of his Manchester United teammates after he drove an Audi to training.

German giants Bayern Munich and Real Madrid both have strict car rules, with players required to drive their company car - issued by Audi or BMW - when going to training.

It wasn't quite the case at United when Rooney was breaking records at Old Trafford, but he stepped in when one of his colleagues turned up in an Audi provided by the club.

Though the cars do not come on the cheap, former United star Carlos Tevez claims he was laughed at by teammates for driving an Audi vehicle and Rooney decided to lend him his Lamborghini.

"It wasn't the same at Manchester United as at Boca," Tevez said in a 2019 interview with ESPN Argentina.

"I missed a penalty at Boca and they killed me, this didn't happen at United.

"Even the worst player came with a Ferrari. I was there with an Audi which the club had given me and they all laughed at me.

"'Take the Lamborghini,' Rooney told me. I went to find it at his house and he let me keep it for 10 days."

Tevez added that he "identified a lot" with Rooney, who he said "came from a poor area in Liverpool and always fought for the ball as if it were the last".

What Rooney said about playing with Tevez

But Rooney also enjoyed linking up with Tevez, feeling as though they "complimented each other really well" on the pitch - to the point where the England legend deems the Argentine to be his favorite ever strike partner prior his shock switch to rivals Manchester City in 2009.

He loved the fact they could alternate positions during games.

“Tevez. I just loved our connection," Rooney told SPORTbible when asked who was his favourite player to play with.

"The two of us up front, we complimented each other really well.

“Normally if I played with Louis Saha, Ruud van Nistelrooy or Robin van Persie – these strikers were always the No.9 and I’d play as a No.10.

“With Tevez we could rotate, I’d be the No.9, he’d take the No.9 spot and I’d be No.10. When we lost the ball we’d be like two bulls trying to get it back.

“As a strike partner, he was the one I enjoyed playing with the most.”

Tevez retired from football in 2022 and has had managerial stints in charge of Rosario Central and Independiente.
