Marcus Rashford breaks social media silence after Erik ten Hag's sacking but it's not what Man Utd fans expected

Marcus Rashford failed to directly acknowledge Erik ten Hag's Manchester United dismissal.

Marcus Rashford has broken his social media silence after Erik ten Hag's sacking, but he's failed to address the manager's dismissal.

Ten Hag was relieved of his managerial duties at Manchester United following a torrid start to this season, with Ruud van Nistelrooy put in charge on an interim basis.

He spent two-and-a-half seasons in charge of the club, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his spell.

Several first-team stars sent Ten Hag messages wishing him well in the future, including Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho.

Rashford, however, has failed to acknowledge Ten Hag after being let go by Man United.

But he has taken to social media since the Dutchman's sacking.

On social media, he thanked England's official X account wishing him a happy birthday.

"Thank you," he wrote in his quote-tweet.

The 27-year-old forward has had a number of run-ins with his former boss.

He was notably dropped following a night out in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which also led to a club fine.

Rashford has struggled under Ten Hag, scoring just once in the Premier League so far this season.

He's made 15 appearances across all competitions, bagging four goals.

Last season, he only managed eight goals in all competitions.

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, issued a message to Ten Hag as he posted a heartfelt message on social media.

"Thanks for everything, boss. I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together," he said.

"I wish you all the best in the future. Even knowing the last period hasn't been great from all of us, I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done for our club."

Man United have just 11 league points on the board, having already lost four league games this season.

They currently languish in 14th place in the table ahead of resuming their faltering league campaign against Chelsea on Sunday.
