Man Utd 'in talks' to sign one of Europe's most sought-after prospects as David Ornstein drops exciting update

Man Utd 'in talks' to sign one of Europe's most sought-after prospects as David Ornstein drops exciting update

United are closing in on the first signing of the Ruben Amorim era.

Manchester United are in talks to complete the first transfer under the management of Ruben Amorim, according to David Ornstein.

United are yet to seal a permanent signing in the January transfer window despite continuing poor results on the pitch.

Amorim's side lost 3-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday, with the Portuguese manager stating that his side are 'being the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United'.

Now, The Athletic's Ornstein has reported that the Red Devils have identified a new signing - and it will excite United fans.

He claims that the reigning FA Cup winners have opened talks with Serie A side Lecce over the signing of left wing-back Patrick Dorgu.

The 20-year-old is rated as one of the top young prospects in world football and was tracked by a number of teams during the summer transfer window.

Ornstein reports that 'dialogue is progressing' between the two clubs, with Amorim keen to recruit players who can better suit his tactical system. Dorgu has previously played at right wing-back as well as his natural left wing-back position.

He has proven his ability at both ends of the pitch this season, netting three goals in 20 Serie A appearances.

He was named as Denmark's 'Talent of the Year' for 2024 in an award that was voted for by Danish players - including his potential future United team-mate Rasmus Hojlund.

Speaking last month in an interview with Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Lecce sporting director Panteleo Corvino said of Dorgu: "He is a champion. Left or right winger, he runs like three players and can find the goal.

"He has an engine that no-one else has. A player like him has admirers, of course, and there are plenty of them, even abroad. But Dorgu will stay here, and then we'll talk about it in the summer because his destiny is already set. His future belongs to him."

Time will tell as to whether Corvino's comments relating to Dorgu's future turn out to be correct.
