How much Man Utd are set to pay Erik ten Hag after sacking him as stunning severance fee revealed

Erik ten Hag left Manchester United after their defeat by West Ham United.

It has been reported that Manchester United will have to pay a hefty sum to Erik ten Hag after sacking the Dutchman.

On the back of their 2-1 defeat against West Ham United in the Premier League, it was confirmed on Monday that Ten Hag had been sacked.

A statement from the club read: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”

Ex-United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was Ten Hag’s assistant, will now take over as interim manager.

On the back of leaving United, Ten Hag is set to receive a huge severance fee.

As reported by The Athletic, the full details of Ten Hag’s severance package are not known but it has been claimed that it could be as much as £16 million.

The report stated: “Ten Hag had 21 months remaining on his extended United deal and it has been widely reported previously that the 54-year-old earned £9million ($11.9m) a year, a sum trimmed by the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League this season.”

Back in 2018, after United parted ways with Jose Mourinho, it was suggested that the Portuguese and his staff received £19.6 million.

Meanwhile, Dutchman Louis van Gaal and his coaches were paid £8.4 million when he was sacked in 2016 after winning the FA Cup.

Reacting to Ten Hag’s sacking, captain Bruno Fernandes wrote: “Thanks for everything, boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best.

“Even knowing the last period hasn’t been great from all of us, I hope you fans can keep with you the good things Erik has done for our club.”
