Next Man Utd manager odds: Odds slashed on shock name becoming permanent head coach after Erik ten Hag sacked

Erik ten Hag has been sacked by Manchester United.

Odds have been slashed on the next Manchester United manager as it has been confirmed that Erik ten Hag has been sacked as Manchester United manager.

The decision to sack the Dutchman came on Monday morning, just one day on from Manchester United's last-gasp defeat to West Ham at the London stadium.

United's defeat came following an extremely controversial penalty decision involving Matthijs De Ligt and Danny Ings.

Ten Hag's side sat 14th in the Premier League prior to his sacking, and were winless in their first three Europa League matches.

The 54-year-old won two trophies in his first two seasons at the club, with Carabao Cup success in 2023 and FA Cup success in 2024.

The club have released the following statement to confirm the news: "Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.

"Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

"We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.

"Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited."

Here are the current odds on who will replace Ten Hag at Old Trafford via William Hill:

Rúben Amorim 3/1

Ruud van Nistelrooy 7/2

Xavi Hernández 6/1

Thomas Frank 8/1

Gareth Southgate 8/1

Steve Cooper 10/1

Kieran McKenna 10/1

Zinedine Zidane 14/1

Graham Potter 16/1

Simone Inzaghi 20/1

Massimiliano Allegri 20/1

Andoni Iraola 25/1

Julian Nagelsmann 28/1

Xabi Alonso 33/1

Roberto De Zerbi 33/1

Unai Emery 40/1

Eddie Howe 40/1

Sporting's Amorim has emerged as the clear favourite for the job, which will come as good news for United's captain, Bruno Fernandes.

Speaking ahead of Portugal's Nations League clash against Poland earlier this month, Fernandes praised Amorim saying: “Since Mr Amorim arrived at Sporting, it has been one of the teams to practice better football.

“They have been consistent, the signings have been right and they are in a very good moment. It's a very well-prepared team."
