Gareth Southgate has made his feelings clear on taking Man Utd job as odds slashed on Erik ten Hag being sacked

Gareth Southgate has made his feelings clear on taking Man Utd job as odds slashed on Erik ten Hag being sacked

Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure at Man United after a heavy defeat to Liverpool.

Gareth Southgate has already made his feelings clear about replacing Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager.

Pressure is already beginning to mount on Man United manager Erik ten Hag after his side suffered a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

United were hoping to bounce back from defeat at Brighton in their second game of the Premier League season, but were completely outplayed by Arne Slot's side.

Luis Diaz's first-half brace put Liverpool in control at Old Trafford, before Mohamed Salah scored a third shortly after half-time to burry United's hopes of an improbable comeback.

United's win against Manchester City in the FA Cup final back in May eased the pressure mounting on Ten Hag, but after two defeats in three games the Dutch coach is once again feeling the heat.

According to Sky Bet, Ten Hag is among the favourites to be the next Premier League manager to lose their job.

The 54-year-old is currently priced at 7/2, behind Everton boss Sean Dyche (3/1).

Former England boss Gareth Southgate was heavily linked with replacing Ten Hag earlier this year, and he has already made his stance clear.

He was asked whether he would like the United job during a press conference ahead of England's friendly against Brazil in March.

"Manchester United have a manager and I think it is always completely disrespectful [to talk about replacing them] when there is a manager in place," Southgate said.

"I'm president of the LMA [League Managers' Association] so I don't have any time for that sort of thing really."

Southgate also said that he would not entertain the idea of speaking to other clubs or teams while still in a job.

Paddy Power have slashed the odds of Southgate becoming the next permanent United manager to 4/1, making him the second favourite just behind current United assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.
