Gareth Southgate’s stance on replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United has been revealed.
Ten Hag’s position at United is looking more tenuous by the day, with a 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night the latest blow to the Dutchman’s chances of remaining at the helm at Old Trafford next season.
In recent days outgoing Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has been tipped to replace Ten Hag at United, while England manager Southgate has also been linked.

According to the i, however, Southgate, as well as Julian Nagelsmann and Zinedine Zidane, have serious doubts about taking the chaotic Old Trafford helm.
The publication added that Tuchel is the current leading candidate among several senior Ineos figures, with the German keen to return to England when he departs Bayern.
Indeed, Ten Hag could even go the other way, with the Bavarian giants allegedly interested in securing the Dutchman’s services.

Speaking ahead of Bayern’s Champions League second-leg tie against Real Madrid, where the scores are locked at 2-2, Tuchel downplayed talk he could stay at Bayern beyond the summer in an interview with TNT Sports.
Asked where he will be next season, the German responded: “It’s very, very, very unlikely that it’s at Bayern, I have to say, because we have an agreement, there is at the moment no reason to doubt this agreement. We took this position, the initiative came from the club, and so it is and I’m fine with it.
“I don’t need it for the extra percentage of competitiveness because I’m always up for a win, I’m always thinking how to improve the squad or how to improve myself in coaching.

"We go all in. Does it have an influence on where I am next season? Maybe not, maybe I’m on holiday no matter what, let’s see, let’s see.”
When asked if he could return to the Premier League, Tuchel added: “I’d rather not answer but it is no secret that I loved it at Chelsea, I loved it in England and I loved it in the Premier League for sure, it was a very, very special time and I remember it very well.”
