Liverpool could finally make another signing during Arne Slot's first season in charge despite the January transfer window closing.
At 11pm on Monday, the winter transfer window officially shut, meaning that Premier League clubs can no longer complete permanent transfers or loans until the transfer window reopens in June.
Frustratingly for Liverpool fans, the Reds were one of the few Premier League clubs that didn't sign a single player in January, meaning they have signed just two players under new manager Slot, with one immediately sent on loan.

However, there is a way that the Dutch manager could bring reinforcements to the club before the summer transfer window opens if he feels that the situation becomes desperate.
Ahead of the Premier League season, clubs are required to submit a squad list of up to 25 players for the whole season.
And while free agents can still be signed outside of transfer windows, they can only be registered if a club has a space left in their registered squad.

However, when Liverpool submitted their squad back in September, they only named 22 players, presumably leaving room for future signings should they be required.
So with that in mind, here are three free agents that Liverpool could turn to if they felt that they needed to look into into the limited options available.
Joel Matip

Once described by club legend Jurgen Klopp as one of Liverpool's "best ever free transfers," Matip is absolutely adored by fans and could make a shrewd recruitment should Liverpool become desperate in defence.
Matip spent eight years with the Reds, establishing himself as a key part of the squad that won both the Premier League and Champions League.
However, in the final years of his career at Anfield, regular injuries held the Cameroon international back from earning regular minutes and ultimately led to the club allowing his contract to expire in the summer of 2024.

But, if injuries or any other major issue led to a shortage of options in centre-back, Matip could prove to be the perfect short-term option to help Liverpool see out what could be a highly successful season due to his familiarity with the club.
Sergio Ramos
Ok, this one would almost certainly never happen given Ramos' history with Liverpool's players and fans.

But let's just imagine how incredible a centre back partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Sergio Ramos in his prime could have been and we can at least get a little bit excited.
Of course, at 38 years old Ramos is far from in his prime but, having spent a year with boyhood club Sevilla, the Spaniard proved he still has what it takes to play at Europe's top level in some capacity.
However, after his brutal tackle on Salah during the first half of the 2018 Champions League final forced the Egyptian winger to leave the pitch in tears, it's hard to imagine Ramos ever being welcomed at Anfield.
Layvin Kurzawa
Ahead of the January transfer window, many Liverpool fans had hoped that the club might explore the possibility of bringing a new left-back to the club.
Despite his triumphs for the club in recent years, Andrew Robertson appears to have struggled in many matches this season, while second-choice left-back Kostas Tsimikas has failed to impress enough to force his way into the starting lineup.
But, despite links with the likes of Fulham's Antonee Robinson and Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez, a move for a new defender was never made, meaning Liverpool would need to look at free agents if they want a new left full-back this season.
Although there are no free agents that would be suitable to start for Liverpool, former Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa could provide good cover in the position ahead of the most important part of the season.
The Frenchman made over 150 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants, winning an incredible 20 trophies and, with six Premier League appearances under his belt with Fulham, he could be a perfect backup option should Slot want one in the coming months.
