Manchester United could make another signing before the end of the season despite the January transfer window closing.
At 11pm on Monday, the winter transfer window officially shut, meaning that Premier League clubs can no longer complete permanent transfers or loans until the transfer window reopens in June.
Despite being linked with several players in a range of positions, United remained quiet in the market, with defender Patrick Dorgu and youngster Ayden Heaven their only signings.

But Ruben Amorim can still add to his squad throughout the season should he be willing to explore options in the free agent market.
Free agents can still be signed throughout the season, but they can only be registered if a club has a space left in their registered squad.
United submitted a 25-man squad to the Premier League in September but that list included the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia, who have since left the club on loan.

So with United potentially having some space in their squad, here are four free agents that United could consider if times were tough and they felt forced to delve into the limited options available.
Diego Costa

Throughout the window, several reports claimed that Amorim is desperate to sign a new striker as both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee fail to impress.

While United fans will be dreaming of the likes of Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko, if they want to bring a striker in before the end of the season then perhaps their best option is former Premier League legend Diego Costa.
After leaving Wolves less than a year after signing in August 2023, Costa spent two years playing in Brazil but now finds himself without a club.
The 36-year-old could provide some much needed experience to United's attack, having scored 56 goals in the English top flight.
Sergio Ramos

Another massive name who remains available in the free agent market is Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Sergio Ramos.
The Spaniard returned to boyhood club Sevilla as a free agent in September 2023, but left after just one season, leaving him available once again.
Ramos has been heavily linked with making a shock move to Mexican club Rayados de Monterrey, but has reportedly been considered by United on several occasions throughout his storied career.
However, United will have to act fast if they are interested in brining the 38-year-old to Old Trafford, as, alongside Rayados de Monterrey, Brazilian club Santos have reportedly offered the defender a one-year contract with a salary of €4 million in order to reunite him with former PSG teammate Neymar Jr.
Brandon Williams

After it was confirmed that Luke Shaw had suffered another injury set back, Amorim may feel they he is light on options in the left-back position having sent Malacia on loan to PSV Eindhoven.
With that in mind, the United boss could be willing to bring Williams back to the club in order to get a player who is already familiar with the team and therefore won't need time to adjust should he be required to play.
The 24-year-old struggled to find regular game time at either Norwich City or Ipswich Town during his loan spells with the two clubs, and now finds himself without a club.
But, after previously admitting that he dreamed of captaining United at some point in his future, it would almost certainly take very little to convince him to return to Old Trafford, even if it was just on a short-term basis.
