Former Premier League star looks completely unrecognisable 14 years after Liverpool exit

Former Premier League star looks completely unrecognisable 14 years after Liverpool exit

The former Liverpool star's appearance has changed dramatically since he was on Merseyside.

A former Premier League star looks completely different to how he did during his time in the English top flight 14 years ago.

Andriy Voronin signed for Liverpool back in 2007, joining on a free transfer after leaving Bayer Leverkusen following two seasons.

He made his debut against Aston Villa and scored his first goal in the Champions League qualifier against Toulouse.

Manager Rafa Benitez hailed the Ukraine international's quality, commenting: "He is clever, has great game awareness and gives us so many more options in attack. He can play behind a main striker, lead the line himself, or come into the attack from the flanks."

Voronin, wearing the No.10 shirt, spent three years at Anfield - with one season on loan at Hertha Berlin.

He notched just six goals and five assists in 40 appearances for the club and failed to settle in Liverpool

Asked about his biggest problem at Liverpool, he said: “Scouse. I understood almost nothing, my English wasn’t good anyway.

"When Carragher and Gerrard talked, I asked them to repeat it in English. Liverpool didn’t suit me as a city overall, even though it has a lot of history to offer, such as the Beatles."

But he is still remembered for his striking blonde ponytail, which almost made him look like a character from Lord of the Rings.

Yet more than a decade on and Voronin looks very different. He returned to England in 2022 for two separate legends game against Manchester United.

And fans could have quite easily missed that he was playing in the game, with his appearance very different.

Now 45, Voronin has short, dark slicked back hair - a huge switch-up from his previous long locks.

Voronin spent the majority of his career in Germany and finished his career with a loan spell at Fortuna Dusseldorf before hanging up his boots in 2014.

He did serve as assistant coach at former club Dynamo Moscow between 2020 and 2022
