Fabrizio Romano has provided a surprise update about the future of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
Zubimendi was regularly linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the transfer window, with the Merseyside club viewing him as one of the top targets of the summer.
However, despite reportedly giving his word that he wanted the move, he instead decided that he wanted to stay at his boyhood club.

And now, Romano has provided another big update on the midfielder's future.
Speaking to Anything Liverpool, the transfer expert said: "I would not be surprised if Liverpool try again in the future for Zubimendi."
After deciding against a move to the Reds, reports suggested that Zubimendi would be rewarded with a new Real Sociedad contract with Real, but it believed that he is yet to offered new terms.

The Spanish side have won just one of their four opening matches in the La Liga, with their first match after the international break set to be a clash against champions Real Madrid.
Meanwhile Liverpool are unbeaten so far in since this season, scoring seven goals without conceding any across the three matches.
However, a new player in the number six position remains a priority target for Liverpool, despite Ryan Gravenberch, who joined last summer, impressing in the role so far this season.
And it's not just Romano who believes that Liverpool could re-enter the race for Sociedad when the next transfer window opens in 1 January 2025.

Speaking to the Anfield Agenda YouTube channel, David Lynch said: "I don’t think that was completely closed off.
"I still think Liverpool will want a number 6 - they’ll want to swap out Endo for someone who fits their profile.
“Liverpool have a very narrow list of targets - and we know Zubimendi ticks so many boxes for them.

"Potentially in January it could be reignited. Maybe one to keep an eye on."
After missing out on the Zubimendi deal, Liverpool ramped up their pursuit of their other targets for the window, bringing Georgian keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa to Anfield, with the former immediately sent on loan to former club Valencia.
