Fabrizio Romano drops Liverpool transfer bombshell as deadline day approaches

After weeks of inactivity, Liverpool's transfer business could be hotting up as the window comes to a close.

Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major Liverpool transfer bombshell with just days left before the end of the window.

Liverpool are yet to make a signing so far under new manager Arne Slot but have now reportedly agreed a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

A contract is set to be signed on Monday, with Liverpool playing €35 million plus a sell-on clause.

The Georgia international will remain at Valencia for the season.

But on Monday evening, Romano released the news that the Reds have made an approach for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

Chiesa is very much available for transfer this summer and was left out of Juventus' squad for the 3-0 win over Como.

He has also reportedly emptied his locker at the Turin club's training base as he prepares to leave.

Barcelona have been heavily linked but the Italy international is said to be keen on a Premier League switch.

Liverpool are exploring the possibility of doing a deal, with the situation one to keep an eye out as we enter the final days of the window.

Earlier this summer it was reported that Juventus had placed Chiesa on the transfer list ahead of his contract expiring next summer.

€25 million was the fee quoted, with fans stunned that a versatile winger would be available for so cheap.

Chiesa signed for Juventus from Fiorentina on a two-year loan deal totalling €10 million back in 2020.

There was also a conditional obligation to purchase him permanently for €40 million, as well as an additional €10 million in variables.

In total the 26-year-old has made 131 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring 32 goals and winning two Coppa Italias.

Liverpool are well stocked for wide players, with the likes of Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Harvey Elliott and Diogo Jota all capable of playing the position.

A holding midfield player appeared to the priority this summer but the Merseysiders were unsuccessful in their pursuit of Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi.
