Darwin Nunez sends Liverpool fans into meltdown with social media activity just days after club receives 'first offer' for him

Darwin Nunez sends Liverpool fans into meltdown with social media activity just days after club receives 'first offer' for him

Darwin Nunez has been linked with a move away from Liverpool.

Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after Darwin Nunez's apparent activity on Instagram.

It has been a fantastic start to the 24/25 season for Liverpool under new boss Arne Slot as the Reds are sitting pretty at the top of the table in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Despite Liverpool's fine form, several of their first-team squad have been linked with a move away with the January transfer window now open.

Last week, it was reported that Liverpool had received an offer from Italian Serie A giants AC Milan for striker Nunez.

The Uruguayan has largely struggled since making a big-money move to Anfield from Benfica back in the summer of 2022.

As reported by Italian news outlet AC Milan TMN, Milan have contacted Liverpool over a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

It has been suggested that Milan would be willing to pay €5 million up front for Nunez for the six-month loan, with the obligation to buy worth a total of €45 million.

On Thursday, eagle-eyed fans on social media claimed that Nunez had apparently 'liked' an Instagram story which had the 25-year-old wearing a Milan shirt. (The Milan shirt was edited onto the Uruguayan).

Reacting on social media, one fan said: "Darwin Nunez liking an Instagram story post linking him with AC Milan...The transfer window has well and truly opened."

Another tweeted: "Think we are being a bit dramatic over an Instagram like lads."

A third fan added: "Sell and buy Isak or Gyokeres."

So far in the 24/25 season, Nunez has only managed four goals and three assists in 23 matches across all competitions, putting him behind the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota in Slot's pecking order.

What has Arne Slot said about Darwin Nunez?

Earlier in the season, Slot said of Nunez: "For me, he has impact. He hasn't scored the amount of goals that he wants to score ... but he does have impact in his work-rate. He's part of a team that scores a lot of goals and is winning a lot.

"Of course, as a number nine you want to score more goals, and that's definitely what he wants as well. But I'm not only judging Mohamed Salah on his goals and Darwin on his goals - I also judge them on their work-rate and what they bring to the team."

Liverpool are back in Premier League action this weekend when they host rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
