Arne Slot responds to 'we are going to win the league' chants from Liverpool fans following 2-0 win against Man City

The Liverpool boss made his position clear.

Arne Slot has responded to claims that Liverpool have wrapped up the Premier League title following their 2-0 win at Man City on Sunday.

Liverpool cruised to victory at the Etihad despite not winning a league game at the ground since the 2015/16 season.

First half goals from Mo Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai put Liverpool out of reach, with Arne Slot's side moving 11 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

As the game drew to a close, Liverpool fans could be heard singing 'we are going to win the league' to Man City fans with the title looking all but a certainty following Arsenal's defeat to West Ham.

Following the game, Slot was questioned on the chants and asked if he shares the same optimism as the fans that the title will be returning to Anfield.

"We know that a week ago I was being told if you only beat Wolves 2-1 that's not a very good thing, and then three days later I got questions about us having a dip because we got a draw at Villa Park, which in my opinion is a very good result," Slot told beIN Sport.

"Now all of a sudden it's the complete opposite.

"That's not who I am, I already thought Villa was a good draw and Wolves was a good win, as I think this [Man City] is a good win."

The Liverpool boss insisted that his sides recent results have not come easy, and with 11 games to go they need to remain focussed on completing the job.

"We have 11 to go, it's far too easy to talk like some people do because we know how much work we have to put in to get the results."

Slot also weighed in on Salah's performance, with the Egyptian breaking six records in the match with his goal and assist.

“The numbers speak for themselves," the Dutchman explained.

He was every time a threat and that probably tells you the quality of a player he is. It’s not so easy for an attacker to defend defend and he gets the ball and then does something special.”
