Jose Mourinho sets new record with impressive Fenerbahce signing as rebuild gathers pace

Mourinho has already broken an impressive record at Fenerbahce.

Jose Mourinho has set a new record with one of his first signings as Fenerbahce manager.

The legendary former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss took charge of the Turkish Super Lig runners-up in June, shortly after the Champions League final.

He has quickly got to work on bringing in new players, with former Everton striker Cenk Tosun arriving on a free transfer and Allan Saint-Maximin joining on loan from Al Ahli.

But his latest signing has become the most expensive transfer in Turkish football history.

The player in question is former Sevilla star Youssef En-Nesyri, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a number of years.

But he has chosen Fenerbahce, signing a five-year contract for a reported £20 million fee.

The Morocco international was reportedly the top target for Mourinho, and will earn around €4 million per season.

His immediate first task will be to help his new club qualify for the Champions League. They will face Swiss side Lugano in the second leg of their second qualifying round match, having won 4-3 away from home in the first leg.

Fenerbahce must then win two more knockout round matches to reach the Champions League, which will debut a new-look format this season.

Confirming the transfer, an official Fenerbahce statement read: "Our club reached an agreement with Youssef En-Nesyri and his club Sevilla FC for the transfer.

"The Moroccan striker signed a contract binding him to the yellow-dark blue colours for the next five years.

"To Youssef En-Nesyri, welcome to the world's greatest sports club, Fenerbahce. We wish you many more championships in the light of our coat of arms."

The 26-year-old reportedly had interest from Mourinho's former club Roma, but ultimately decided to join the Turkish Super Lig side as they look to overhaul Galatasaray at the top of the table in the upcoming season.
