In his first interview with the Liverpool club website as a Red, Darwin Núñez has revealed which former Kop hero he’ll be calling for advice.
The Uruguay forward claims he’ll be calling his compatriot, Luis Suarez, who he believes can “offer his support and help” as a “real reference” being a “Uruguayan footballer who made history at Liverpool”.
If Núñez can be anywhere near as successful at Liverpool as Luis Suarez was, Reds fans will be pleased with their club’s new recruit. Suarez, who is currently a free agent, scored 69 Liverpool goals across 3 and a half seasons at Anfield. His Liverpool career may have been marred by a few moments of indiscipline, but Liverpool fans will never forget his star qualities.

However, Núñez and Suarez possess very different forward profiles. Suarez boasted immense technical quality and tenacity during his time at Liverpool, while Núñez is a player who relies primarily upon his pace and power.

Núñez will likely be asking Suarez about the adjustment from a non-Top Five League to the Premier League. Suarez of course had 5 seasons in the Netherlands before his move to Liverpool and thus, just as Núñez will need to, he had to acclimatise to the higher demands of Premier League football.
Within the interview, Núñez also pointed to the fact that he has come to Liverpool “to win trophies”. Both domestically and on the continent, Liverpool are a much more successful club now than when Luis Suarez left in 2014. Núñez and his Liverpool teammates will be dreaming of a Champions League win next season after the heartbreak of a few weeks ago in Paris.
However, one player Núñez likely won’t be able to ask for advice from is Sadio Mané. Fabrizio Romano reports the Senegal international is “getting closer” to moving to Bayern Munich this summer. Núñez will thus be a direct replacement for the 30-year-old forward.
