Luis Suarez labels Darwin Nunez 'idiot' for controversial Liverpool decision

Suarez told Nunez exactly what he thought.

Luis Suarez labelled Darwin Nunez an 'idiot' for a controversial decision he made at Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez joined Liverpool in 2022 to great fanfare, but the Uruguayan striker has failed to convince supporters since completing his £85 million move.

This season the 24-year-old has improved on a tough first campaign at Anfield, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists in all competitions.

However, recently there have been reports that Nunez could leave the club this summer with the likes of Barcelona interested in his services.

Speculation only increased earlier this week when Nunez deleted photos of him playing for Liverpool from his Instagram profile.

It's not the first time since joining Liverpool that Nunez has found himself at the centre of controversy.

The striker was sent off on his Anfield debut after he head-butted Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen, something former Liverpool striker and current Uruguay teammate Luis Suarez slammed him for.

In a recent interview with ESPN Uruguay, Nunez revealed that Suarez often gives him advice, especially when the Liverpool attacker finds himself in hot water.

"Off the field, we have a very good bond, I always follow him because Luis is an idol for me, and he also advises me a lot," Nunez said.

"For example, the time the headbutt thing happened [against Crystal Palace], Luis was the first to write to me.

"'You idiot, don’t do that, another idiot is talking to you and he’s done it a thousand times,’ he told me. With Luis, we created a very nice bond."

Nunez has not scored for Liverpool in seven matches, but Suarez offered his support by commenting on an Instagram post that his compatriot should remain "positive" and keep "looking forward."

If the pair link up for Uruguay's Copa America campaign this summer, you can image that Nunez's Liverpool future will be a topic of conversation.
