Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno is set to leave the club this summer after losing his place as the North London side’s first-choice keeper last season. The German was usurped by new arrival Aaron Ramsdale last September and has since failed to regain his spot between the sticks.
Benfica reportedly lead the chase for the Germany international. However, despite being available for as little as £8.5 million, the Portuguese outfit are said to be reluctant to match the price tag Arsenal have placed on Leno. It is a tad baffling that Benfica aren’t willing to fork out such a meagre sum for a keeper of Leno’s stature.
It is certainly a move which Bernd Leno would be interested in making. The 30-year-old has cast the appearance of a sad figure on the touchlines for Arsenal this season whilst watching Aaron Ramsdale play ahead of him. A separation would be best for both parties, but Arsenal fans will be left with fond memories of Leno.

Mikel Arteta has already managed to secure a replacement for Leno regarding a backup goalkeeper. American shot stopper Matt Turner will move to Arsenal on July 1st from MLS side New England Revolution. The £7.5 million deal to bring Turner across the pond surely leaves Leno surplus to requirements at Arsenal.
Bernd Leno isn’t the only player who could be heading for the departure doors at Arsenal this summer. The likes of Çedric Soares, Gabriel, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Nicolas Pépé have all been linked with moves away from the Emirates Stadium. Alex Lacazette’s contract is also set to expire in the coming days.
