Sanchez had one year remaining on his deal at the San Siro but has now been moved on after making just seven starts in Serie A last season.
He is believed to have pocketed a £4.3m payment from Inter to cancel the final year of his deal.
Ligue 1 club Marseille announced on Tuesday that they had reached an agreement in principle to sign Sanchez subject to him passing a medical.

But he almost put the move in jeopardy after narrowly avoiding an injury at his unveiling in the French city.
Wearing the club's kit, Sanchez dashed out onto a street in Marseille to greet hundreds of supporters eager to catch a glimpse of the Chile international.
But disaster almost struck when Sanchez appeared to twist his ankle and slip, prompting security staff to help him regain his footing.
Thankfully, Sanchez appeared to be okay and continued to greet the Marseille fans.

The moment has now gone viral on social media, with one post from Twitter account @GFFN reading: "Alexis Sanchez with nearly the fastest injury sustained at a new club in the history of football."
Arguably the greatest Chilean player of all time, Sanchez played for Cobreloa in his home country before moving to European football with Italian side Udinese in 2006.
He would spend five years with the Serie A club before sealing a dream move to Barcelona in 2011.

Sanchez lasted three years at the Nou Camp, winning La Liga once, before being sold to Arsenal in 2014.The forward thrived at the Emirates, scoring 80 goals in 166 appearances for the Gunners, before moving to Manchester United in 2017 as part of a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
But he failed to produce his best form at Old Trafford and was sold to Inter Milan in 2020 after spending one season on loan at the Italian club.
Sanchez helped Inter with the Serie A title in the 2020-21 campaign and also picked up a Coppa Italia winners' medal last season but found himself struggling for first-team opportunities under Simone Inzaghi.

He now joins Marseille, who finished second in Ligue 1 last season behind bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
