Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong has spoken about his desire to play with current Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, who has been heavily linked with Barcelona so far in the 2022 Transfer Window.
On Saturday evening, the Netherlands took on Poland in the Nations League, with the match ending in a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Davy Klaassen, Denzel Fumfries, Matty Cash and Piotr Zieliński.
Among those playing in the fixture was Erik ten Hag’s No.1 midfield target, Frenkie de Jong. Working alongside former Reds Daley Blind and Memphis Depay, De Jong showed again why he can help fill the hole left in the Old Trafford midfield by summer departees Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

Although the Polish gunman didn’t play, it didn’t stop reporters asking De Jong about the reported Barcelona target.
After reporters spotted the pair talking at full time, he was promptly asked if he had invited the current Bundesliga champion to Barcelona. “Haha! He’s an amazing player,” De Jong replied. “One of the best in the world. It’s up to him.”
When quizzed on where he would like to see Lewandowski move to, he replied “of course I would like to have him in my team!”

With De Jong expected to join his former coach Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in the coming weeks, it is incredibly unlikely that De Jong will be able to fulfill this wish – but that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to play with another incredibly well respected goalscorer in Cristiano Ronaldo.
Reporters also questioned De Jong on his proposed move to Manchester United, and just as his reply to questions fielded on Lewandowski, his reply was equally cryptic.
Lightly laughing off the question, Frenkie de Jong simply stated, “No… I think… I can’t say anything.”
Manchester United and Barcelona have now entered formal negotiations for the midfielder, with many fans excited at the prospect of seeing Frenkie de Jong donning the Manchester Red and stepping out onto the Old Trafford turf under the instruction of Erik ten Hag, who went on a “charm offensive” in an attempt to convince De Jong of his project.

Erik ten Hag has ordered those players who have not been competing internationally in the last few weeks to report for pre-season training promptly on 27th June, with United to start their Tour 2022 against Liverpool on 12th July.
The club will play a further three fixtures after this across Australia and South Asia, against Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, before flying to Oslo, Norway, to take on Atletico Madrid on 30th July.
The club will then take on Rayo Vallecano in Manchester the next day at 16:00 BST.
