Usain Bolt record smashed by 16-year-old viral Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout

Gout Gout made headlines at the World Under-20 Championships in Lima.

Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout has beaten one of Usain Bolt's records after he set a new personal best time at the under-20 World Championships in Lima.

The 16-year-old, who was born in Brisbane after his parents migrated to Australia from South Sudan, has been tipped for greatness following a series of impressive races.

As well as being the holder of the Australian under-16 100m and 200m records, Gout ran 20.87s to win the under-18 men's 200m final at the Australian Junior Athletics Championship.

Back in January, he achieved a time of 20.69s – which was just 0.11s behind Bolt's time at the same age.

And at the under-20 World Championships, the teenager set a personal best of 20.60 in Peru, running 0.01 seconds faster than Bolt when he took part in the race back in 2002.

As you can see from the footage above, South Africa's Bayanda Walaza picked up gold after the 18-year-old crossed the line in 20.54 seconds. Britain's Jake Odey-Jordan, meanwhile, earned bronze with a time of 20.81 seconds.

Speaking after the race, Gout opened up on his latest race. "I'm feeling really relieved after a long-two weeks of being in Lima," he said.

"I've been training, grinding and just waiting patiently for this race to happen. Now that it's done, I'm really glad and ready to get in my bed and rest up."

Back in May, another one of Bolt's records was smashed after Jamaica's Nickecoy Bramwell clocked 47.26 seconds at the Carifta Games in Grenada.

Bramwell beat the 22-year record by 0.07 seconds and after the race, Bolt opened up about the talent in modern day sprinting.

“After me, it kind of went down because of who I was as a person, and how big my personality was," Bolt said.

“But I think over time it will be better. I think young athletes are coming up and I see a few personalities that are needed in sport, hopefully in the upcoming years it will change.”

Back in March, Gout delivered a life-changing performance at the Queensland Athletics Championship, when he clocked a personal best time of 10.29s.

A few months later and footage was shared far and wide after Del Walker uploaded the clip to his X feed.

"Read about a 16-year-old Sudanese kid in Australia who ran 100m in 10.2 seconds this year," he wrote. "Found the footage— freakin ridiculous," he said. "His name is Gout Gout, remember the name. No way is this kid not gonna be an Olympian one day."
