Terrified Olympics commentator orders judges to intervene after witnessing 'dangerous' dive

The BBC commentator made his feelings known live on-air after the 'dangerous' dive.

BBC commentator Leon Taylor slammed Olympic judges over a 'dangerous' dive during the 10m platform semi-finals.

Taylor pleaded with the judges to punish Italy's Maia Biginelli after she almost hit her head against the platform in a terrifying moment at the 2024 Olympics.

Everyone in attendance at the Aquatics Centre in Paris were left shocked at how close she was from cracking her head.

Audible gasps could be heard from spectators inside the arena.

Biginelli took to the platform in a bid to bag a medal as she had taken the plunge with a three-and-a-half somersaults inward dive in the tuck position.

The 21-year-old, however, came extremely close to hitting her head against the platform on her first twist as she looked to pull off the 3.2 difficulty-rated move.

Speaking live on-air, Taylor exclaimed: "Judges, you need to do your job now. You didn't do it this morning. Do your job now. That is a dangerous, dangerous dive. Her hair hits the diving board, she should be massively penalised for that. Her hair pretty much hits the board."

He questioned: "What are you watching from your seats? What are you watching? We've got a duty of care in this sport to keep athletes safe. You've got to penalise. Coaches, you can see that as well."

Another BBC commentator added: "They’re showing her the replay now, so hopefully she can process that herself because that was frightening to watch."

Judges awarded Biginelli a score of 41.60 as she finished in last place at the end of her semi-final.

As she made her way out of the pool, she spoke to her coaches, who seemed to show her a replay of her scary dive on a small screen.
