Imagine the scene. You have just thrown six perfect arrows – a 180 with your first three darts and 177 the next.
With a score of 144 remaining, you proceed to hit a perfect treble 20 with your seventh dart. "Hold on to your hats," says the commentator, anticipating a historic moment on the oche.
Your eyes venture down to the treble 19. You hit it. One dart remaining with 27 left to hit... but wait. You have just miscounted. The nine dart finish is no longer available. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?" screams the commentator.

This sounds like a nightmare scenario, right?
Well, that nightmare became a reality for Jamie 'Yozza' Hughes, who managed to fumble a nine-dart finish in his Players Championship clash against Alan Soutar this week. You can see that horror clip below.
Hughes, looking a tad embarrassed after his efforts, went on to hit a single 11 to leave a double eight finish as Soutar lagged behind on 247 – but the agony on his face told a painful story.

The 36-year-old, from Tipton, turned around with an irked look before shaking his head in disgust.
"You know you're going to be on YouTube for a week with this effort," the commentator says. "The referee is flummoxed... Alan Soutar is flummoxed, thinking 'Jamie Hughes, bow your head in shame."
Despite that nine-dart blunder, Hughes went on to win the leg and match 6-5, but was beaten in the round of 64 by world number nine Jonny Clayton.
