Sand from Tom Brady's retirement video is selling on eBay for $99,000

NFL fans have entered a bidding war over a jar of sand, taken from the exact spot where Tom Brady announced his retirement.

Taken from the Florida beach were Brady ended his 23 season career, the jar was listed on eBay on Thursday (2 February) and is currently listed for $99,000 (£82,200).

With over a week until the auction closes, fans are continuing to fight it out for the unusual memento with over 110 bids on it so far.

Despite this being Brady’s second retirement from the NFL, it seems his followers are still keen to gain a keepsake as he leaves the sport ‘for good’.

The 45-year-old made the short statement from Surfside Beach where he previously lived with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, according to the Miami Herald.

Bidding began on Thursday, with the user listing the item for a modest $667 (£553) as a tribute to the quarterback, with the number being the total of touchdowns Brady made across his career.

Over his 23 seasons in the NFL, the seven-time Super Bowl champion made 649 passing and 28 rushing touchdowns - according to NFL.com.

Gadgetgs, the eBay seller behind the memento, is also charging an additional $5.25 ($4.36) for shipping and will not accept returns.

“You will find no other listing like this,” they told bidders.

“No one else took a sample on Feb. 1 after the GOAT posted his real retirement. You will be owning the very land the GOAT retired on,” they added.

Accompanying the listing were several photos of the beach, the jar and a newspaper as evidence of its authenticity.

This hasn’t stopped several scammers from copying the listing on eBay, many of which have already received bids of over $12k (£9.95k).

However, not all of Brady’s followers are impressed by the unusual souvenir.

In fact, several have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration with the ridiculous auction.

One wrote: “Imagine the weenie who planned on packaging sand Tom Brady stood on.

“IMAGINE THE WEIRDO WHO BUYS THE SAND… he is not that important, like he played sports. Congrats but damn packaging sand… whoever’s plan that was needs counselling."

Another tweeted: “Why does this person think the sand Tom Brady stood on is worth any money... Couldn't get $1 dollar out of me for it."

Bidding on the original auction is set to close on February 12, it’s thought that the jar could reach over a $100,000 before it ends.
