Padraig Harrington calls out Bryson DeChambeau after 'the most bizarre thing he's ever seen in golf' on final round of the Masters

Padraig Harrington slammed Bryson DeChambeau after Rory McIlroy won the Masters.

Padraig Harrington has called out Bryson DeChambeau after witnessing 'the most bizarre thing he has ever seen in golf' on the final round of the Masters.

Rory McIlroy ended his 11-year wait for a fifth major title and completed the career Grand Slam with a dramatic victory over Justin Rose at the Masters.

His fifth major title is his first triumph since the 2014 PGA Championship and makes him just the sixth golfer in history to complete the career Grand Slam, joining fellow legends Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

But he could face losing nearly half of his £3.2 million prize money despite his play-off heroics at Augusta National.

America's DeChambeau, who was rivalling McIlroy at the top of the leaderboard ahead of the final round, made a stunning revelation about the Northern Irishman's demeanour following his Masters victory.

DeChambeau was also subjected to criticism by three-time major champion Harrington, who referenced a 'bizarre' incident on the final round of Sunday's riveting action on the green.

"What was he thinking on the third hole?" He said on RTE Radio's 1 Today with Claire Byrne of DeChambeau, who started round 4 in the final pairing.

"Bryson has made his game by being a long hitter. He stands up on the third hole with a one-shot lead, possibly can drive the green, he lays up makes bogey; Rory drives it, hits driver up to the near the edge of the green and makes his birdie."

Harrington added: "It was the most bizarre change of personality I’ve ever seen in the game of golf right there in that moment...it was beyond bizarre what he did off the tee, for him in his personality. He didn’t hit a shot afterwards.

"He has different skills but his ego has gone down this road of being a long hitter and he had a chance right there on the third hole, stand up there, burst one down there, it’s a big enough area and he just gave all the momentum back to Rory."
