Donald Trump 'won' golf tournament despite missing half of it after 'bending rules'

Trump claimed victory at a Seniors Championship in Palm Beach, Florida.

US President Donald Trump once 'won' a golf tournament that he competed in - despite missing half of it.

Well before his venture into American politics, Trump was a well-known face in the golfing world, with the businessman owning 16 different courses across the world.

Twelve courses in the States belong to Trump, while a further two in Scotland, one in Ireland and one in the United Arab Emirates each adorn his name.

One of Trump's first promises upon winning the Presidential election in November was that he would seek to solve the ongoing fierce dispute between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

The 78-year-old said last month that there was a 'good chance' that the dispute can be resolved, and he has personally involved himself in talks between the two rival organisations.

He is also a golf player himself, and has competed in a number of tournaments over the years.

In 2023, his Trump International Golf Club course, in Palm Beach, Florida, hosted the Senior Club Championship.

The future two-time US President claimed victory at the tournament, held over two rounds on Saturday and Sunday, in a post on his Truth Social app.

"A great honour to have won the Senior Club Championship at Trump International Golf Club, one of the best courses in the country," he wrote.

"Competed against many fine golfers, and was hitting the ball long and straight.

"The reason that I announce this on fabulous TRUTH is that, in a real way, it serves as a physical exam, only MUCH tougher."

The post, unsurprisingly, concluded with a dig at the now former President, Joe Biden: "You need strength and stamina to WIN, and I have strength and stamina - most others don't. You also need strength & stamina to GOVERN!"

The Daily Mail subsequently claimed that Trump was not present at one of the two days of the tournament as he was attending the funeral of one of his supporters, 600 miles away.

The report then claimed that the 78-year-old asked to use his score from Thursday - which was five shots better than the next lowest-scoring competitor on Saturday - as his first round score.

Other players are said to have been 'surprised' when they turned up to the competition on Sunday to see Trump at the top of the leaderboard.

He was, though, able to hold on to his 'advantage' on day two, with members having previously remarked that he is a solid golfer.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, a spokesperson for Trump did not comment to the Mail.
