Premier League club officially ‘open talks’ to sign Viktor Gyokeres after Sporting striker ‘decides’ on his next move

Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with a move away from Sporting Clube de Portugal.

It has been reported that one Premier League club has opened talks to sign Sporting Clube de Portugal striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Swedish striker Gyokeres is one of the most sought-after players in Europe right now after yet another flying start to the campaign.

So far in the 24/25 season, the 26-year-old has scored 24 goals and registered four assists in 21 appearances across all competitions.

As a result of his fine form, the Swedish international has been linked with a move away from Sporting, with clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain.

It was reported last week that Gyokeres had set his sights on a move to United.

On Monday evening, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed that United have opened talks to sign Gyokeres, in what would be a potential summer move.

He wrote on social media: "Manchester United have now made initial concrete talks regarding Viktor #Gyökeres and a potential move in the summer. The Red Devils are now fully involved.

"However, this will require sales first! Manchester City have also intensified their efforts in recent days. Hugo Viana is currently pushing hard in the pursuit of Gyökeres."

United will be hoping that the lure of a reunion with former boss Ruben Amorim could tempt Gyokeres to Old Trafford.

New Red Devils boss Amorim recorded his first Premier League victory on Sunday after beating Everton 4-0, with Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scoring twice.

Speaking after the match, Amorim said: "Today, we started very well but then lost control of the game. We were following the ball without any possession after 15 minutes. But then we scored in a set-piece play, so that was a key point for us.

"And then, near half-time, we scored again. Then, in the first play again [after half-time], we scored the third goal, so we have acknowledge that, in the right moments in these three games, we scored goals."

United will be back in Premier League action on Wednesday night when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates.
