Liverpool's two 'priority' January signings revealed with club 'exploring deals'

Liverpool's two 'priority' January signings revealed with club 'exploring deals'

Arne Slot's next transfer targets have been revealed.

The players that Liverpool will be pursuing in the January transfer window have been revealed, as Arne Slot looks to further improve his squad.

Despite late moves for Georgian keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa before the window closed, Liverpool fans were mostly disappointed with the club's actions in the 2024 summer transfer window.

The club also explored a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who looked almost certain to move to Anfield but ultimately decided to stay with his boyhood club.

And now, it has reportedly been revealed who Liverpool will be targeting when the transfer window opens again in January.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are exploring options in the transfer market for a new defensive midfielder and left-sided centre-back.

The two positions are said to have been priorities for the club over the summer but after the deal for Zubimendi collapsed, they did not feel that they had enough time to find a suitable replacement.

And while new manager Slot's midfield three of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai have impressed, it is believed that a defensive midfielder is the top priority for Liverpool in January.

Wataru Endo, who came to Anfield last season from Bundesliga club Stuttgart, appears to have fallen out of favour with Slot, perhaps explaining the desire to bring in a replacement in January.

Speaking about the 31-year-old Japanese international after Liverpool's win over Brentford, Slot said: "It is not always about him it is also about the others.

“He will be important for us during the season because we need all of them; we all know how long a season can be over here and how many players you need."

After bringing in a new midfielder, a left-sided centre back will be pursued by the club as Liverpool search for a long-term replacement for captain Virgil van Dijk who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Even if Liverpool are able to tie the 33-year-old down for longer with a contract extension, they will look to bring in another centre-back to learn from the legendary Dutch defender.
