Jordan Henderson linked with shock Premier League return as post-Liverpool struggle continues

Jordan Henderson linked with shock Premier League return as post-Liverpool struggle continues

Jordan Henderson left Liverpool last summer.

Jordan Henderson could make a shock return to English football as he continues to struggle after leaving Liverpool.

Back in 2011, the midfielder left boyhood club Sunderland for Liverpool in a deal worth a reported fee of £20 million.

Henderson went on to make 492 appearances for the Anfield club and captained Liverpool to the Premier League title and also lifted the Champions League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, among other trophies.

The 34-year-old was lured to the Saudi Professional League by Al Ettifaq last summer as he reunited with Steven Gerrard.

However, Henderson returned to Europe after just six months as he signed for Dutch side Ajax.

Since making the move to Amsterdam, Henderson continued to struggle as he has failed to nail down a regular starting spot in the team.

With the January transfer window just a few months away, it has been claimed that Henderson could return to the Premier League.

As reported by The Sun, a few Premier League clubs have been alerted by the possibility of Henderson being in the market for a transfer in January.

Aside from the Premier League, it has been suggested that Championship sides are also interested, including former club Sunderland.

Explaining his decision to move to Saudi Arabia, Henderson previously said: “It was very much a football decision. Of course I've got to make the decision be for me about what's best for me and my family as well.

“I think a lot of people would probably like us to sit here and criticise the Saudi league and everything that went along with that, but that certainly wasn't the case and that's something that I'm not going to do.”

He added: “I've got full respect for the league, for any fans of the club, for the people over there who really made us feel welcome. But unfortunately these things in life sometimes just don't work out in football and in life in general.”
